When I first arrived in Barcelona to begin my International Master in Finance at EADA Business School, I had a general idea of what the academic experience might be like, but I did not fully grasp how much the city, the people, and the program itself would shape my day to day life. A few months in, I have found a rhythm that balances academics, personal growth, and everything Barcelona has to offer.
Mornings: Starting the Day in Barcelona
Most mornings begin around 8:00 AM, especially when classes are scheduled early. I get ready and head toward campus, usually stopping at a café next to the EADA Business School for a coffee and a pastry. It is a small routine, but one that helps me ease into the day and get focused before class.
Classes typically start at 9:00 AM and are designed to be both engaging and practical. The program at EADA does a great job of combining theory with real-world application, which keeps the material relevant and interesting. There is usually a short break during class, which is a good time to recharge, grab a quick snack, and catch up with classmates. These moments add to the collaborative atmosphere that makes the experience so enjoyable.
Midday: Learning Beyond the Classroom
Classes generally finish around 12:00 PM, and from there, the day can take different directions. Some days, I will go to lunch with classmates, which has become an important part of building relationships and continuing discussions outside of class. Other days, I will head home and prepare something to eat.
One thing I have come to appreciate about life in Barcelona is the emphasis on balance. Taking time to rest, even briefly, can make a big difference in maintaining energy and focus throughout the day.
Afternoons: Staying Productive
Afternoons are usually dedicated to coursework. This includes preparing for upcoming classes, working on group projects, or studying for exams. Depending on the day, I will either work from home or go back to campus to study in the library.
The collaborative environment continues here as well. There is almost always someone from my program at EADA studying at the same time, which makes it easy to stay motivated and exchange ideas. Group work is a central part of the Master in Finance and plays a key role in developing both technical and interpersonal skills that are essential for a career in finance.
Evenings: Enjoying the Barcelona Experience
Once I have finished my academic work, I make time to unwind. I usually go to the gym and then head home to make dinner. In the evenings, it is common to meet up with classmates, especially if there is a football match on. Watching games together has become a great way to relax and stay connected.
Barcelona offers a unique social environment. Even on quieter nights, there is always something happening. People are out with friends, cafés are lively, and there is a strong culture of enjoying time together. This adds a special dimension to the student experience that goes beyond academics.
Growth: Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone
While the daily routine is important, the real impact of the program at EADA comes from the personal growth it encourages. Moving to a new country has pushed me outside of my comfort zone in many ways. From adapting to a different academic system to navigating a new culture, every day presents new learning opportunities.
I arrived with limited Spanish, but even making the effort to speak a few words has helped me feel more connected. It is a small step that goes a long way in integrating into the local environment.
Academically, I have also learned the importance of managing my time effectively. At the beginning, it was easy to get caught up in exploring the city and enjoying everything Barcelona has to offer. Over time, I have developed a better balance between academics and social life, which has been one of the most valuable lessons so far.

For anyone considering a full-time International Master at EADA Business School, my biggest piece of advice is to stay ahead of your work. It may seem simple, but it makes a significant difference. Staying organized early on gives you the flexibility to take advantage of opportunities without falling behind.
At the same time, make the most of your time in Barcelona. The city offers an incredible mix of culture, energy, and experiences. Finding the right balance between studying and exploring is what makes this journey truly rewarding.
